Hitchin Pantry is offering 6 months free membership for Ukrainian families. Members of the pantry will be able to access food, including fresh fruit and vegetables and store cupboard favourites, to the value of £15 or more every week.


Members of the Hitchin & Beyond Welcomes Refugees Facebook Group are organising regular coffee mornings and get togethers for Ukrainian families looking to make friends. These take place at Christchurch, Bedford Road, Hitchin on Tuesdays from 10:00 until 13:00. Check out the page for details.


Baldock and Ashwell Action Aid Ukraine are a group of local volunteers supporting refugees and host families in the area.  They put on regular events and have lots of useful information.


St Mary's Church in Walkern, Stevenage are running a coffee morning at 10 am every Wednesday for Ukrainian guests and their hosts. A foodbank is available at the same time.
Stevenage Food Rescue Hub is open on Saturdays from 0930 to 1100 at The Old Red Lion Pub (Hungry Horse) in Hydean Way, Stevenage.SG2 9XR

North Herts has many food provision groups. Some of the groups aim to help those in need, some aim to reduce food waste and others do a combination of the two. A full list of these groups is available on the NHC website.


UPcoming events

A Coffee Morning for Ukrainian Families is taking place in North Hertfordshire Museum’s Café.

It is a fantastic opportunity for Ukrainian families to connect and offer support to each other. The event is on Wednesday 22 June from 10am – 11.30am.



Baldock & Ashwell Action Aid Ukraine is a group of local volunteers supporting Ukrainian guests and hosts in our local area. They have organised a fantastic Midsummer Party on June 25th with all proceeds going to support local Ukrainian families. Tickets can be purchased here.




Bim Afolami MP for Hitchin and Harpenden is hosting an information and advice morning for refugees supported by The Refugee Employment Network. This event will run from 10am until 1pm on Wednesday 29th June at The Sun Hotel in Hitchin.


This event will provide refugees based in Hitchin and Harpenden with the opportunity to:

  • Meet with local employers
  • Speak to an Employment Adviser who can provide initial career advice
  • Learn about local education courses, including English classes
  • Understand how to have qualifications recognised in the UK
  • Find out about local support services
