Groups Unite in Celebration in Stevenage Town Centre
Earlier this month, the sun was shining and spirits were high as North Herts and Stevenage Centre for Voluntary Services (NH&SCVS) hosted the Stevenage Charity & Volunteers Fair, a fantastic day of celebration, connection, and community. Over 15 brilliant local charities and groups came together at Event Island in the heart of Stevenage to highlight the incredible work happening across our local Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector.
The day was a true reflection of the NH&SCVS mission as a charity: to support local groups in whatever they need to make a greater impact and thrive. By bringing organisations together, the aim was to strengthen relationships, spark collaboration, and raise awareness of the vital services these groups provide. The Fair did just that — offering an opportunity for groups to connect with one another, meet members of the public, and share their stories.
Who Attended
Among the organisations featured were some of the areas most impactful community champions. Young Carers’ Crew North Herts and Stevenage stood out for their dedication to giving young carers a safe space to connect, socialise, and simply have fun — something many young people in caring roles don’t get enough of.
The Red Shed brought colour and calm to the event with their focus on dementia wellbeing. Their dementia-friendly garden runs therapeutic horticultural workshops, offering those living with dementia a chance to engage with nature and community in a meaningful way.
Crossroads Caring For Life were on hand to speak about the importance of respite and homecare for unpaid carers — a lifeline for many families across the area.
Supported Activities Programme showcased their wide-ranging events for adults with learning difficulties, helping to combat isolation and promote inclusion through shared social experiences.
Meanwhile, Living Room Herts highlighted their life-changing support for individuals struggling with addiction. Through their free, open-ended group therapy, they help people break the cycle and begin the journey to recovery.
The Fair wasn’t just about charities meeting charities — it was a brilliant chance to engage with the public too. Many attendees discovered services they hadn’t heard of before, signed up to volunteer, or pledged to support in other ways. The energy and enthusiasm from both organisations and visitors was a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together.
What's Next
This Fair is just one of many events we’ve held this year to empower our sector. We’re already looking ahead to our next major gathering: the Funding Summit & AGM in September, heled at Lucas Lane Sports Club, Hitchin — an essential day for anyone involved in community work and needing advice on the vital issue of funding.
