Opening The Doors of Our Hitchin Office
At North Herts and Stevenage CVS, we believe that one way to build a stronger voluntary sector is to start with opening doors—both literally and figuratively—for more people to get involved in their local community. That’s why we were thrilled to welcome Callum from Hitchin Boys’ School for a day of work shadowing as part of his Careers Day this summer.
Callum spent time with our team, explored how we support local charities, and even tried his hand at creating resources for one of our own projects that helps children with additional needs. His experience wasn’t just a glimpse into the world of charity work—it was a powerful example of how early exposure and hands-on involvement can spark curiosity, compassion, and even future action.
Encouraging The Next Generation
“I really enjoyed learning more about the charity,” Callum shared. “I might even volunteer for one of the projects like Reach Out or apply to work for the Breakaway Playscheme in the summer holidays when I’m old enough.”
While Callum may be leaning toward a more active, hands-on career path, his story reflects something central to our mission: that engaging people from all walks of life—students, volunteers, part-time workers—helps build the capacity and impact of the local voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector.
