Facing the Funding Gap

Across North Hertfordshire and Stevenage, grassroots groups and small voluntary organisations are at the heart of stronger, more connected communities. Whether offering vital services, delivering food parcels, supporting mental health, or running youth activities, these local champions play a
critical role in improving lives.

But in 2025, many of these groups face one persistent, structural challenge: funding. With traditional grants becoming more competitive and often harder to access, local groups find themselves stuck in cycles of uncertainty. Some struggle with understanding eligibility criteria or simply don’t have the time or expertise to write compelling bids. Others find themselves repeatedly applying for short-term pots that offer little long-term security. Even well-established organisations report difficulties in finding funding that matches their real, on-the-ground needs.

What We're Doing

As the local centre for voluntary service, we’ve been hearing the concerns of groups in North Hertfordshire and Stevenage loud and clear. And as an
organisation committed to supporting local groups, we know that funding is more than just money — it’s about sustainability, stability, and the ability to grow in impact and ambition.

That’s why we’re hosting the NH&SCVS Funding Summit & AGM this September.

Designed in direct response to the challenges local groups are facing, the Funding Summit is a space where real conversations can happen — with funders, support providers, and peers alike. This is not just another event; it's a space where clarity meets collaboration.

From practical steps that guide groups through the funding process, to hearing directly from funders about what they’re looking for, to the opportunity to ask questions without judgement — the Summit is about removing barriers and building confidence. Whether you’re new to fundraising or
looking for more sustainable funding models, there’s something here for every organisation navigating the complex landscape of community funding.

More importantly, this event is rooted in our mission: to support local groups, help them face and work through challenges, and unite the sector for the betterment of the entire community. We believe in the power of collaboration and shared knowledge — and that better outcomes come
when we bring everyone to the table.
