Be The Good: Find your way to volunteering in Baldock

Saturday 31 October | 10am–1pm | Baldock Community Centre

There are so many people across North Herts & Stevenage who want to do something good in their community. The challenge isn’t always a lack of willingness – sometimes it’s simply knowing where to start.

That’s why we launched our Be The Good campaign earlier this year: to make it easier for local people to discover the charities, community groups and projects working in their area, and to find a way to get involved that works for them.

Our next Be The Good event is coming to Baldock Community Centre on Saturday 31 October, from 10am to 1pm, and we’re bringing local organisations together under one roof.

Find your thing

The volunteer fair will give local residents the chance to meet organisations, find out more about the work they do and discover the different ways they can support local projects.

Because volunteering doesn’t have to look one particular way.

There are opportunities that need a regular commitment, but there are also one-off activities, flexible roles, practical tasks, behind-the-scenes support and opportunities to use skills you already have. Some roles might involve working directly with people; others might involve events, communications, fundraising, administration, driving, gardening, technology or simply lending a pair of hands.

With so many local projects doing different things, there is a good chance there is something that connects with:

  • What you care about
  • What you’re good at
  • Time you have available

The fair is an opportunity to explore what’s out there before deciding what might be right for you.

Why volunteering matters

We know that a thriving voluntary and community sector is an important part of a thriving local community.

Across North Herts and Stevenage, voluntary organisations are supporting people, connecting communities and responding to needs that aren’t always met elsewhere. They can often see a need emerging within a community and respond in ways that are local, personal and practical.

But community organisations cannot do this work alone.

They need people who are willing to contribute their time, skills, experience, ideas and energy. Volunteers are part of what makes so much of this work possible – from the people delivering services and running activities to trustees, fundraisers, campaigners and those quietly helping behind the scenes.

That’s why making it easier for people to find their way into volunteering matters.

And if you have an idea of your own…

Be The Good isn’t just about connecting people with existing opportunities.

We also know that local people often have ideas for something they’d like to see happen in their community, but aren’t sure what to do next.

Our North Herts & Stevenage CVS team will be at the fair too, so if you want to understand more about what’s happening across the local voluntary sector, talk to us. And if you have an idea for a community group or project and want to know how to get it started, come and have a chat.

Part of our role is helping good ideas become something that can make a difference.

Come and find your way to Be The Good

Whether you already volunteer, are thinking about giving it a go, want to support a particular cause, or simply want to find out more about what’s happening locally, we’d love to see you.
