What do we do and how do we make a difference?
We provide effective and affordable therapies for people throughout Hertfordshire. We also welcome those from neighbouring counties.
The Hertfordshire MS Therapy Centre offers therapies not only to people with Multiple Sclerosis, but also those including children with other neurological conditions including; Ataxia, Autism, Muscular Dystrophy and Cerebral Palsy.
Our two main therapies are:
1. Physiotherapy This is vitally important to keep people mobile for as long as possible, to maintain independence, stay in school or work longer and be less dependent on carers or family. In short, helping them live life to the fullest extent possible.
2. Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment This helps many of our members by improving eyesight, reducing painful spasms, managing fatigue and improving energy levels. People with cancer, head injuries, stroke and ME patients, as well as children with Ataxia, Autism and Cerebral Palsy can also benefit from this treatment.
We offer other therapies including Massage, Reflexology Osteopathy, Chiropody Counseling Chiropractic and Yoga.
Number of members: 317 Number of volunteers: 61
Our biggest achievement in 2009
We delivered 3,465 physiotherapy sessions as well as 3,870 other therapies including oxygen therapy to our members.
Our Biggest Challenge for 2010
To find the funds to delivery physiotherapy in five other towns across Hertfordshire so that more people with MS and other neurological conditions can get the treatment they need.
How NHCVS has helped our organisation
We rely on NHCVS to help us to find new volunteers.
Our organisation has also benefitted from attending NHCVS training courses. Several of our newly elected trustees really benefitted from attending a one day workshop to fully understand their roles and responsibilities.
As we are situated just next door to NHCVS, we have often used their ‘library’ resources and their meeting room.
